INTRODUCTION

We warmly welcome Mr. Ing. Mag. Hans Handl, MBA, CEO of the Austrian umbrella association of next level education and CEO of a construction and real estate company, as a new member in the board of IHM. Due to our steadily growing international activities and the therewith connected excess work, we decided to expand our board of directors and put the financial sector into the proven hands of a longtime fellow campaigner for academic education and advanced training and an international experienced financial expert.

We are very happy about this strengthening and wish Mag. Hans Mandl all the best and much success in our common work.

Dr. Dr. Martin Stieger, Chairman of IHM International

IHM CDT COURSES MODULE 1 IN GRAZ – REPORT

From October 7th to 11th 2015 in Graz, Austria, seven attendants experienced the next course on CDT (Complex Decongestive Therapy) in a very personal and practice oriented way. Attendees from four different countries, China, Oman, South Africa and UAE, experienced a very focused and intensive course in which the practical use of the therapy was the major issue. This is also the reason to have small groups, so that the teachers have enough time to interact intensively with each student to optimize the success of the trainings.

The very positive feedback shows us, that the IHM strategy of teaching quality is the right direction. The average feedback grade of 4,88 out of 5 is very high and the motivation for us to keep this grade of quality and even improves it.

At this course the practical part was the major focus.

IHM CDT COURSES MODULE 2 IN GRAZ – REPORT

Students who already successfully passed Module 1 of the University Course “Complex Decongestive Therapy (CDT)”, came to take part in the 2nd out of 3 modules, namely “CDT – Module 2: Principles of Lymphoedema II”.

The Module 2 was again hosted in cooperation with the FH Joanneum (University of Applied Sciences, Graz, Austria) in Graz, Austria from the 12th to 16th October 2015. The students from seven countries, China, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and UAE, deepened their theoretic background as well as their practical training exercises featuring manual lymph drainage and compression therapy.

We were very happy to also see that all students successfully passed the written exam on day 1 about the contents of Module 1 and the e-learning contents.

After successfully completing Module 2 there will be the last Module 3 in 2016 in order to obtain academic certification for the profession of lymphedema therapist according to European treatment standards. Also in this course the average grade of 4,82 out of 5 shows a big satisfaction within the students.

IHM CDT COURSE MODULE 1 IN TEHERAN – REPORT

In October the IHM also held its first CDT course in Teheran and we are proud to be able to say that also this course was governmental supported.

As always with first courses the teachers and students are more curious than normal. Although because of the delay of the flights to Teheran, the course started late but developed very positively. Especially in this course the trainers were very satisfied with the attention of the students. Again in the practical segments the trainers had to overcome some cultural handicaps but finally they were able to deliver a maximum input in practical trainings to the students.

Although we saw that some of the students had international theoretical knowledge of CDT. In the practical trainings we experienced that almost all students did not have enough experience and technical knowledge, so it was for everybody involved a very interesting learning.

The first CDT course in Teheran was really a positive and motivating experience, and we are really looking forward to having further courses in Teheran and Iran.

SOME DATA ON LYMPHOEDEMA

Do you know that because of the worldwide sanitary development elucidation and further education in the field of therapies on Lymphedema gets more and more important.

According to a report of the WHO about 250 Million people suffer from Lymphedema worldwide.

Some other estimations act on the assumption that around 4% of the world´s population is influenced by Lymphedema in their life in some ways. As there is no healing for this illness, everybody who is diseased with Lymphedema is his whole life reliant on a carefully and individually designed therapy against Lymphedema.

FUTURE COURSES

Here you will find a quick prospect on the further courses of IHM

• From February 15th to February 24th 2016 the CDT module 3, also called Lymphoedema Course Advanced will take place. The course will be a 4,5 ECTS course and also takes place in Austria, at the University of Applied Sciences FH Joanneum in Graz . Please see the final schedule for this course at the website www.ihm.ac.at. A final exam closes this course and if passing this the students will receive their graduate and are allowed to even step further to the next level: the CDT trainer course.

• The CDT trainer course will take place in summer 2016 and offers in a 8 ECTS program to be educated and trained to the grade of a certified trainer of a European University and when passing this the trainers are entitled to train the modules 1-3 of the CDT courses.

• Also in Iran the next courses on CDT are in the planning process already and we are optimistic that in the first quarter of 2016 the next modules on CDT will start in Iran.

Finally we wish all our students and graduates a very happy and successful New Year 2016.

Sincerely your IHM team
