The Course Content

In the European university course “Complex Decongestive Therapy” the student learns all relevant theoretical and practical knowledge to treat patients with lymphoedema. In module 1-3 the student gets an overview of the medical-therapeutic diagnostic and the therapy of relevant clinical pictures of the lymphatic system and its symptomatology. Theoretically the student knows the anatomical, physiological and pathological basics of the lymphatic system. In practice the student knows the manual lymph drainage techniques on the intact lymphatic system. The student learns the medical-therapeutically diagnostic and therapy of relevant clinical pictures of the lymphatic system, its symptomatology and clinical presentation. The students are able to perform basic and complex examination and treatment techniques at the patient.

Teaching material

After booking the course you will receive a link by e-mail with your personal and individual access code to the online teaching material for this course on our Moodle platform.
The course content and corresponding presentations are only unlocked at the specified times for the registered course participants.
The IHM E-Cademy is based on the Moodle e-learning platform, which is available worldwide. Teaching videos are located in our own IHM YouTube Channel, to which you will be directed too out of the IHM E-Cademy.

Examination

At The end of the CDTB Module 1 course there will be a final written exam over the week´s course content including theory and practise which must be completed within the specified time limit.

Certificate of participation

The participants who pass the exam will receive a certification of participation by IHM International, after successfully attending the course and which allows to attend CDT Basic Module 2 course.

Structure of complete CDT course program

The course program consists of 3 modules:

  • Module 1: Principles of Lymphoedema I –  4 days course (3 ECTS)
  • Module 2: Principles of Lymphoedema II – 5 days program (4,5 ECTS)
  • Module 3: Lymphoedema Course Advanced – 5 days program (4 ECTS)

The total of 11,5 ECTS have to be succesfully completed to finish the course.

  • Module 4: Train the trainer program for selected candidates–14,5 ECTS. Graduates are certified trainers of European University and will be entitled to teach module 1-3.
  • CDT Refresher courses – as every certificate is valid for 2 years, it must be extended by attending an IHM refresher course. These courses are 4 days courses in which primarily new developments in the treatment and products are communicated as well as a deep repitiion of practical use of all the special techniques you have learned..

Certificates

The graduation certificate will be from the University of Applied Sciences FH Joanneum Graz, Austria and the University of Split, Croatia, which gives the graduate the title “Complex Decongestive Therapist”. National accreditation and job profile according to legal requirements is adapted for each country where the course is introduced.

Additionally every participants receives a Certificate of Participation from IHM International, which proofs your attendance at the mentioned course and allows to register for refresher courses. Each certificate is valid for 2 years and has to be extended by visiting a refresher course.

Entrance Criterias

Candidates with the following pre-requisites are qualified to apply for the admission procedure:

  • Completed university studies in medicine or nursing science
  • or Diploma in nursing science
  • or diploma in physiotherapy
  • The candidate needs to be legally allowed to treat human patients.

Admission

The admission criteria will be checked by IHM International and together with our academic partners the admission procedure will be processed.

Tuition fees

The cost structure and the determination of the fee are depending on national structures and network partners. Included are:

  • National and international trainers
  • Access to our e – learning platform IHM E-Cademy
  • Tutoring
  • Study material
  • Product samples for practical training
  • Teaching venues and technical equipment.
  • catering during coffee breaks and lunch time
  • Welcome dinner (registration necessary (please see pre-registration form)
  • 5% fee to the Croatian Association of Physiotherapists

The tuition fee does not include:

  • accomodation and breakfast
  • dinner, besides the welcome dinner
  • travel costs to Mostar
  • travelling costs from hotel to the teaching venue and back

 

Workload and mode of studies

  • Module 1  has to be done by face-to-face training. Under certain circumstances it can be set up as an online training
  • Modules 2 and 3 have to be done by face-to-face training

Concerning the workload, we are following the European Credit Transfer System. 1 ECTS point equals 25h workload for the student. The overall 11,5 ECTS represent a total workload of approximately 285 hours of study for the course.

Between the modules 1-3 the student has to complete practice periods where he/she needs to treat specific indications given by the university. The student is obligated to prepare minimum of 10 case reports for examination.

Language of teaching is English.
